The purpose of this document is to provide publishers with an overview of the technologies being deployed by different players in the information chain and the effect that these have on ways in which users navigate to content. Better understanding of these technologies and specifically their impact on "routes to content" should enable publishers to make better informed investment decisions. Specifically, it should help publishers understand the relationships between, and perhaps improve, the balance of their investments in metadata production, web site development and marketing expenditure designed to increase traffic.
